Fort Gregg 2 April 1865
After Breaching the trenches at Petersburg, the 5th Vermont under Charles G Gould, stormed Fort Gregg.
Defending Fort Gregg was 28th North Carolina. They held as long as they could to allow other Confederate units to withdraw, When Union troops yelled at Confederate Pvt Lawrence Berry to "drop the lanyard" he responded "Shoot and be Damned!" he pulled the lanyard and 12 union soldiers shot him dead...
Special thanks to Paul at Shenandoah Miniatures for most of the heads and muskets with hands attached
I will post images of all the figures as they are being sculpted and painted
