Hi folks

Seeing as I enjoyed painting the 54th Mass bust recently , dragged this out from the GA storage shed!!!

Verlinden of course and still a great sculpt

I have reworked the headband and replaced the cheek and neck pieces supplied as I thought them too thick

Currently thinking about the headdress ...so many variations ( there is PE included so might use them or at least some !!! )

I will add the head ring seen to indicate a married warrior

As it is now.....

All ideas and suggestions are welcome

I don't recall ever seeing this one painted up (aside from the box art of course).

Nice going Nap, you do surprise sometimes.

Cheers Bob ...it's a interesting subject as well .....added the married ring on top of head ..just need to work it into the hair a little

I have had this a very long time in the GA including 4 house moves ! so good to get it on its way

Looking good Nap! I've got this one sitting in my GA. Can't wait to see what you do with it. And thanks, by the way, for the great reference material. (y)

Cheers,
Ken

Cheers Ken ....it's a real nice sculpt and tge addition of PE is a bonus ...still unsure about the headwear .....not vey good at sculpting a mass of feathers !.....might just go for a couple

Hope we see yours out the GA

Cool subject

Thanks it's a good subject as you say , appreciate your posting

Happy bench-time

Great looking model Nap, I'm really looking forward to how you handle the skin tones as I always struggled to get realistic looking black skin tones.

Thanks Gary

Many variations on the skin looking at references but will see how it goes !

Feathers are on order both black and white ...be interesting to see if it works

Verlinden has some exceptional quality busts for my taste, painting an African warrior is not easy I hope to see how he develops the work.
Enjoy Kevin.

Thank you Santi

I agree despite the age of the releases there are some really good pieces

As for the skin colour ...I have a few mixes in my head ..see how it goes on !

I'll be interested in how you deal with the black skin tones. Did a Zulu many years back. Not pleased with the results and been a bit gunshy ever since.

Many variations of course

I will try and post SBS ...when this hits the brushes ....currently based and primed up in black

One thing is not to make the white of the eyes too stark ...using a light wash of acrylic gray

Here's something Yellowcat posted for Oils but to this I add burnt sienna, umber, black washes in both acrylics and WSO

Stay tuned
