I tried some new things with this guy.
    primed with Halfords grey autoprimer.
I always paint the eyes and surrounds in acrylics.
Preshading was basecoat of Vallejo, brown sand, carmine red and light flesh till it was a light pink colour.
Preshading of burnt umber+basecoat for shadows and cadmiun red+ basecoat for midtone shadows and basecolour+lightflesh for highlights all quite diluted. I used some basecoat+blue for some 5 oclock shadow.
I airbrushed the 5 oclock shadow and the midtone shadows in his eyesockets and hairlines.

Then it was basecoated with oils.
Basecoat of Titanium white raw umber and a small amount of yellow ochre.
    Highlights were straight white
Shadows were cadmium red, burnt umber, blue and black.
The lips and eyebrows still need to be painted yet but here he is so far.

I think it's a very very realistic face like this Grant! You handle those oils very well. Not a brushstroke in sight, very smooth. I always have difficulty with that when trying oils.
The eyes are sparkling but not overdone, just right.
Perfect work so far, I'd say!

Looks great very realistic. I'd speak to Steve at Reedies models and see if he can do you a sensible sized tankie cap badge as opposed to the Young shako plate that comes with the kit though ;)

    Ta for comments.
It's done mate. I spoke to Steve at Reedees and got great service from him, sending me the right scale cap badge and some great advice. Thoroughly nice fella to deal with.
