Superbly done as you'd expect from Young. But how many Germans do we need? I know they sell, I hear you say.

Hi Guys ,

I must admit I agree with Carls comments , but these sell and at the end of the day they are a business .

I like the addition of the flare pistol and the batterred cap but the pose itself is static IMHO with the painting bringing the model to everyones notice.

Be interesting to see how this is painted up by others though .

I like the face much more than some of the recent German busts with the perfect Aryan propoganda poster faces. I have no problem with more Germans. If someone was producing Napoleonic general busts of this quality I would buy them all.

Hi Guy,
Young is a talented sculpter in every way.However WW2 Germans are the safe bet in the modelling world,why not try something out of the "comfort"zone.You may surprise yourself.

My warmest welcome to a delightful deviation from usual facial features by Mr Young. The torso is very standard and admittedly too similar to offers past. But the face... It's alive, Young-style!!!

Like many have already expressed, I'm pleased to see a face that doesn't look like it was modeled after a Nazi party propaganda poster. Young is an exceptional sculptor and I respect his right to sell what he wants, but as a consumer, I'd love to see a heroic Canadian, Brit, Pole, Italian, Frenchman etc. from WWII. I'd buy at least one of each.

Maybe he just like sculpting Germans. If they sell so much the better. It hard enough to get motivated to sculpt without having to do something you are not nterested in just to please the market.....which may or may not be there outside a few who are tired of his core topic.

Not trying to be rude, but you have to consider it from the sculptor's side too. Most of them are not dispassionate cottage industry types trying to turn a buck but hobbiests like the rest of us. If someone asked me to turn out a bust that did not interest me, it would be crap and likely would never get finished.

Couldn't agree more with what Colin wrote above.

I don't understand what I get from reading some posts.
Why is any manufacturer supposed cover all subjects
that have been around? It is not manufacturers' job to do so.
But Young has been doing a great job doing just that so far.

I think the modelers are under impression that small
garage companies should be able to fill in the gaps despite
the smaller return because they don't have to make a big
profit like larger companies. Sort of like "that should be
enough for them" type of idea. But who's to decide?

Let me tell you all, it is hard enough to survive from
selling what sells. Enjoy these beautiful busts while you
still have companies like Young Miniatures around.

Hi,

I personnally love WW2 German figures etc and when it comes to sculpting for myself and hence my range I love sculpting them and get so many ideas of things to sculpt.

I dont like this as is, but I cant see the point of bashing it to pieces just because its german ww2. I look at the sculpt , the paint and think lovely work. I would do this for any period.

It seams to be fashionable to jump on the oh not another german etc etc. I think its become a fad to do so, kinda popular in fact. The same is becoming true for Knights and romans etc. Next who knows maybe it will be a lost tribe from the andes that nobody has ever seen.

These products are chosen because they sell consistantly and esp in the case of Ww2 germans to a large group of the modelling commuinity. They probably bring people into the realms of figure painting due to there crossover.

Nobody goes great another german that i've not seen before and i must have it now. The market has a lot of producers catering for a very large and very educated clientelle, they have a lot of choice.

None of my germans has shot off the shelves, they have sold consistantly and I have produced kits of "differing " and diverse periods and they just havent sold.

I suppose my point is that not all that you think sells actually sells as much as you think.

I hope young continues to keep his core of WW2 german subjects, they are arguably the best and also that he continues to bring us somethig totally different.

Again a German. It is a superb sculpted bust. That's for shure. But why again another german. there are so many other combattants in the WWII era.
I'm Waiting for a new Allied bust.
Trying to convince Mr.Young is, I think as difficult as to communicate to him.
For about two months ago i mailed him. untill today........ NO REPLY.

If you dont like it don't say anything. Young miniatures will decide what they want to produce.

I, and other consumers, have expressed our desire to see other busts beyond yet one more German. Surely that could be viewed more charitably as free market research, no? Young and other sculptors can choose to ignore it and I'm fairly certain the world will keep on spinning, but perhaps, just perhaps, there's a reason many of us are voicing our wish to see non-German subject matter. I remember a time when all things Australian were huge in the US. That didn't last. Disco used to be big, too So maybe, one day, this German tide will recede. I don't think it harms anyone to discuss it.
