As if I haven't got enough on the go I decided to strip and repaint this. I can't get the transitions any smoother on the back of the coat.
    But there you go,
    Carl.

Well Carl it seems to me you have your Bench full of great figures.

Slow down, mate. I've barely got one out of the box and you're already knocked off a couple. Nice one.

    Looking good.
Why don't you try the coat to paint with oils. Wet in wet will do the work.

Tried using a larger brush Carl?

Paul's jokey comment above is also something to bear in mind - when painters are having trouble getting smooth transitions using acrylic/vinyl paints one of the key issues is that they're trying to finish too quickly. If that's maybe part of the issue with you, take a breath, relax and try to get into the it takes as long as it takes mindset.

Alternatively, do the bulk of the shading work with the airbrush :D

    Hi Carl!

The coat are very well done for me, and like Dimitrios said, wonderful work on the scarf and fleshtones.
Those Young´s figures are really amazing in casting & detail..)

I fight trying to get acrylics applied very smooth, so I understand what you
wrote. However, to me the back of the coat just looks weather worn, and
so it woiks fer me, mate.

    Good show, Carl,

Thanks for the constructive critique. I do need to slow down on all my piece, so many figures so little time. All my attempts with oils end in disaster, so I'll have a go with the airbrush.
    Thanks again,
    Carl.

Looking really good. I especially like his pants they appear to be very nicely shaded and highlighted.

    Hi Carl,

Your recent works look real good and this is no exception. The painting is seriously good enough, if not 100% fulfilling by a high standard set usually by oneself.

While I have done absolutely no painting whatsoever recently (trying hard to impress and please in my new role), I too am considering a decision of some gravity: switch to oil in the next experiment. I do agree oil painting would do wonder here for the transition on the coat. I believe that the box art by Mr Ishii was done in oil.

As for airbrushing, it always comes down to how good a pal the instrument is to its owner. When the chemistry is right, mind-blowing beauty reveals itself, acrylic or oil. So I believe.

Looking good so far Carl, have you considered using oils for the coat.

My tongue in cheek comment was directed at your volume NOT your ability.(y)

No offence taken Paul, I tend to rush everything, ask my ex-girlfriends.;)
The consensus seams to be oils, I'm reluctant to try them, and cock up the couple of hours it's taken to get this far. I'll go for the airbrush option first, if that doesn't do the trick I'll have to bite the bullet.
    Thanks again,
    Carl.

The coats looking pretty good Carl!

The backs of stuff like this is always a difficult area for me too. All too often there is little to break up that drop from the shoulder to the hem, it will look horrible if not done just right :(

A gentle session with the AB might help with the transitions...

    Keep us informed mate :)

I'm loving that figure, funnily enough even though I'm an admirer of the LRDG I didn't know if that figure.

Mind you, I don't know if my skills with a brush could compare to yours there Carl, really outstanding work!

Oils can be a disaster waiting to happen if you push em too quick mate. Bin there, seen it etc. On my second re-coat of the bust I am on right now. Maybe the saying, "like watching paint dry" says it all. Have to say it looks bloody good to me tho Carl.
    Cheers
