Pectoral bronze halfplates did loose totaly they virtue to the 2nd century.
It was common to wear it, by the not that wealthy militias and legions of the republican era, -cause it was mostly made of reused bad alloys (thick and rimmed in form cause of that).
They had to buy they own armors, and it was the "cheap pick".
After 120-100BC mail shirts take its place - cause they got wide aviable and cheaper too..

Nor roman sculptures or wall paintings of the old times, nor figures of our times show frequently poor souls for some reasons.
Its a unique and rarely seen look, spiced up nicely.

    Thank you all!
Chest plate, characteristic of a gladiator-provocateur. It was used for several centuries, until the prohibition of gladiatorial fights.

Finally, some good, authentic gladiator figures! And beautifully sculpted too. I'd not seen the stela of Chrysampelos before, so thanks for that too.
