Been married for 46 years and my wife still doesn't like my music after all these years. I still like Steppenwolf..."Born to be wild" and the list goes on and on and on.......But...she still lets me be my creative self......Unfortunately, I can't get the wrinkles out of it.

I have the same situation with my love of all things Northern Soul - but I'll still Keep The Faith & Keep On Keeping On till I die!;)

Always found classical best for painting, usually the lighter stuff.

I listen to nearly everything: classical, jazz, modern, soul. Not much rock or pop. To tie back to the original topic: opera singing is not appreciated around here (except by me).

I am married for the second time and neither wife could stand my taste in music. It is mostly Blues or Blues based so not every ones cup of tea. I expect my 200 LPs and 300 cds will join 100 painted figures on a trip to the dump when I'm gone.

Ah well, I won't see it.

As well as Northern Soul, I occasionally like to listen to a bit of opera......bit random, I know, but I defy anyone not to get emotional over "One Fine Day", the aria from Madam Butterfly. Truly epic quality.

I took my wife to see Il Trovatore once at the Royal Albert Hall. She didn't like it much, & we've never been to the opera since. She's the same about my Northern Soul fetish too, tried to get her to come to Soul In The Dales at Skipton with me once & she passed on that too. Ah well.....

Yes, I do like bluegrass as well. I have quite varied tastes but tend to buy Blues and original R & B ( Animals, Stones etc,).

I don't play anymore, guitar or banjo, due to arthritic fingers. Doesn't help my painting either.

My younger brother is a keen banjo player/collector but like you, he is suffering with arthritis in his hands, having been a vehicle mechanic all his working life - with me it's my thumbs. A lifetime of hammering a computer keyboard maybe?

My Dad used to be a big fan of a bandleader called Charlie Kunz, & he was quite partial to a bit of Peggy Lee too.

Yes, Charlie Kunz. Good British music from that era. I think his band was based at the Savoy. I love the music of the big bands, and everything from the mid-30s up to the mid-50s. Beyond that, not a lot and current stuff all sounds the same to my dud ears. I am showing my age!

One of my favourite listens whilst modelling or painting, The War of the Worlds by Jeff Wayne & others (the original version from 1977, not the restrikes which have appeared since). A truly epic album, with that voiceover by Richard Burton.

What a classic. A shame he was never able to follow it up. I know he did technically, with one called 'Spartacus', which was a total flop.
