Nice Iron Age chariot with a woven leather suspension floor.., I have a big stack of measurements of chariots from all over the world. We were going to make a full size Mycenaean chariot at one stage.

The chariot is looking great, and in a good scale(y) Those little British horses were, it is believed, quite shaggy in appearance. And please, please don't make Boudica a 'centre-fold' glamour model. She would have had a bit more flesh on her than your average 'girlie'; had given birth to two daughters, after all.

    Shaggy horses.

Just about all horses are shaggy, especially in the winter with feathers if left on their own. Summer coats are thinner of course. Most horses you see being worked have been clipped to stop them overheating. They get very sweaty which can look like a white foam on the body. Makes your inside leg wet. There is a good chance that the Celts clipped theirs too.

    Shields

Every body shield ever found had been curved. That includes all Celtic shields including the Dorchester find. Large flat shields do not work. They do not deflect the blow but knock you shield.

This includes large Saxon shields, Roman and Norman kite shields. Art work and old books may show them as flat but archaeology and practise shows them as curved.

I would put a slight horizontal curve in those shields for accuracy.

I'd also add wicker sided to the chariot. Those Y bits are based on an illustration from Roman coins.

This is very true. I was at the stables last weekend and the horses are in a barn which has one side open and the horse lives as a herd. Anyway they all have very think coats now.

The other thing is that the horses would probably be smaller and akin to the Mongolian steppe ponies as thoroughbreds weren't extant at this time.

    Just my tuppence worth.

    Cheers

    Hi Guys

Thanks for all the comments , I am working on this with RP

Totally agree the horses need to be stockier , more pony line,

Shields , need to be a little concave

Boudica ...about 40 having 2 children , a middle aged figure , don't want glowing locks , she was a hard woman , feared and aggressive

PLEASE DO SHARE ALL REFERENCES AND IDEAS YOU HAVE

    Hello again

I was just trawling through some of my notes on horse burials. The type of breed to go for is a fell pony, a vet old native breed to the UK. The Queen currently rides one. If unclipped they will be shaggy all year round with feathers around the ankles. Height would be small. By today's standard somemething around 13-14 hh.

I do have a pile of research somewhere on chariot horse tack but at the time I didn't read it very thoroughly. Most of it is near eastern.

Boadica was high status and it may be reasonable to assume her husband bought or was gifted larger and prettier horses from the Romans, who I might add, did have some big uns.

I'd be careful about helmets except for Roman as few have been found in the UK especially late Iron Age.

    Hello Mr. Andrew

THANK YOU so much for your help... In our idea we want develop a great figure sculpture... We are thinking in put the driver with a Roman helmet... Because he taked from a roman soldier... But all the vests are bretan... We have many photos and contact with a association that they are re-enactors... And they are support us with helps...

I like the idea of the last horses... Because Boudica have a important status, maybe can have roman horses... The big ones... But we are thinking develop little horses like poneys, to put in chariot... But what you think it will be better... Can you tell us please?

We are developing Boudica with some gold jewels... Because she was a Queen. Have a status in the tribe...

About the shield... We are developing a circle shiled for Boudica and a big one for the driver... And we will put everthing with many moviment... We are watch, and watc, and watch.... The new Histort Channel Boudica Documentary... Rising enemies... What you thing of this documentary? I think its great...

About the age... Many people told us to develop Boudica a little old... Personally, I dont believe she was older... In that time, the average life expectancy arent very big, like in our days... People married sooner and have childrens earlier too... In that time a person with 30-40 years have a big life... So I think we will put her a little younger... What you think?

If you can help us, it will be very preciated...

    Hello Mr. Alan

How are you Sir? Thank you so much for your comment...

Ive some doubts about that... The average average life expectancy arent very big... I believe people married soon, and have sons very soon too... So I think Boudicca is younger when happend all teh events... But this just an opinion... What you think about this?

    Thank you Sir.

    Hi
Getting it historically right is important ........But the aim is also to produce an
attractive piece ..........So bending the accuracy is not a bad thing

Tacitus the Roman historian said that Boudicca was big woman with a big voice
He was writing his account about a hundred years after the events.

But then the romans were never going to admit they had their arses kicked by a
    little girl in a chariot.

    Just a thought
