    Hello everyone.

I am preparing this figure and have a question: What role does the dragon carrying the soldier ?. It is a flag or another function ?.

I think it is a wind indicator for archers, is it right ?.

    What material is the dragon?

    Can anybody help me?

It would appear to be a Draco Standard, originating from the Dacians, and subsequently used by Roman cavalry (carried by the Draconarius).
Have a look at the following:-
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacian_Draco
If you Google 'draco standard', you'll get more references.

Andrew, thanks for your information. Excellent!

New question: How comes a Norman knight to use this Standard of Roman origin?

I've read through this article and the only reference for 1066 is Harold Godwinson's retainer carrying such a banner. That makes it Saxon, and not Norman.
There is a bust of a Saxon standard bearer by MJ Miniatures for this period, which presumably is based on such a reference:-

However, I've yet to come across a reference for its use by the Normans.

    Cheers,
