["All in all decals are OK and if it hadn't been for some guy like Mike, I would have never concieved the idea to finish the DIII as Voss's mount"]

["As he said, that if it wouldn't have been for Werner Voss being such an exceptional sculpt by Mike Good, he would have never been tempted to build the DIII, on my part I would have never expected to fare so well in Class1 at EuroMilitaire amidst so MUCH more colourful and elaborate and eyecatching subjects then a SIMPLE 19yr old (or 20 ??) WWI Ace with hands in pocket yes I got my first GOLD after a 13yr jinx/itch of going to EuroMilitaire!!!!!!!"]

The top qoute is my brother's Joseph copied and pasted from the Aerodrome forum, where he briefly but significantly explains why he was tempted to build the Albatros DIII as Werner's mount after he finished the awesome looking biplane last week; while the lower quote is mine on the same thread and on the same forum :)

I'm sorry I didn't post earlier as we (a contingent of 13 from my club) flew off to Catania for the C.S.M.S. Expo from the 4th till the 6th last weeekend. It was the 1st time that Wener was displayed with his DIII and they really fared well together and were awarded a gold medal. I have to say that displayed with his mount, Werner really looked satisfied at last and could detect a sense of relief on his facial expression :D I'm sure it is visible enough for all to see :p

So as I promised Mike that I would post the finished pics of the Albatross, here they are in all their glory :)

The next joint project between us is going to be Billy Bishop and his Neuport, so God Willing, at next year's EuroMilitaire I will display the DIII & Voss together in Class 21 or something like that, and throw Bishop alone in Class1's arena and test his mettle vis a vis Voss's golden exploits this year :D

    Ray ;)

Nice ! there's something ... romantical about those old biplanes ... great stuff !

Just FYI : seems they do make some of the greatest plastic model kits in 1/32 of WW1 biplanes in New Zealand these days, heard they're the very best in plastic kits that exist, now that should be just the thing you need for your next figure then ...

    Hello Ray,

    Looking good!

Your brother has finished the Albatross with the same care and finesse that you did with the figure. Congratulations to you both!

As for the Billy Bishop/Nieuport project, I have aspirations to the same (primarily because I already have the Bishop figure painted!).

I guess your brother finally opted for the Nieuport instead of the SE5. The SE5 has the potential to be more colorful, but the conversion would definitely make it a more difficult project. The Nieuport is a weaker kit though. It does need some help to correct its defects. A good start are the replacement wheels and cowling from Master Casters:

    http://www.mastercasters.co.uk/2.html

The Nieuport set is about 2/3rds down toward the bottom of the page.

Good luck with the new project!

    Cheers!!
