To Paul :

Very simple :1. Paint the mud areas with Basic mud colour mixed with ordinary flour
2. Drybrush the basic mud colour wtih sand colour
3. Wash thined basic + a drop of black + some gloss varnish for wet effect
4.Little drybrushing again with basic mud colour + a drop of sand colour
