Hi, after seeing Cannonball’s work on this new bust I thought I would share my WIP

Wow, that was quick Steve. Looks like you’re a lot further on than me but it’s looking great. Like your take on the colouring of the extra harness decorations. I looked at the Detaille painting and a couple of other full figure representations I found on the net and couldn’t decide whether it was a grey/silver/brown combo or more towards the gold as you’ve gone for.

Cheers mate, yes I’ve been poring over a blow up of the painting and gone with a best guess. I may tone it down but I like it .
Just trying to work out how to attach the sword sheath and sabretache, just need more hands

First rate job. Full size figure and horse must be even more imposing.

Nice work (from both of you) (y)

I'd go for silver. All the repros I've looked at seem to veer towards that and this art-print site which allow you to zoom in really close seems to confirm it.

BTW: you could fly to Sydney to check out the original:
...how's that for a flat screen TV

Cheers mate, I’ll do a bit more work on that colour, I’d love to get back to Sydney and look at the real thing

Impressive, that is a lot of figure. I was put off by the size but everytime I see it I am tempted.

... yeh... I thought that about the painting as well
  12. rcfanuk Member

Yes it’s certainly large, you also find it heavy once it starts coming together . I also keep knocking bits off, lost the little cross at the bottom of the horses neck ornament this morning to the carpet monster

Interesting... My interpretation was that those decorations were probably black leather.

Looking again I can see why you'd say that... this seems to interpret them that way:

DAMN: I forget the psychological name for it (perhaps auto-suggestion?), but ever since Kurt suggested black that's the way I now perceive them.

A bit like that 'is is black or is it gold' dress meme that went round the world a few years ago:

Yes, can imagine that happening; still lovely figure and very dramatic, really captures the painting.

Hi all....can anyone tell me who manufactures the full figure in Neil's post....thank you(y). Mike
  17. NeilW A Fixture

Dunno., but I got it (ie the photo) via Marco Colli here and a different version here (some good stuff on his main board).

You may be able to message him... he may know?

Excellent work! When I retire and build my model room, I am going to put down linoleum but instead of white or gray, I am going to pink or orange to prevent carpet monster mishaps :)

Looks like Britains made one (but not on current site): https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Xne3qa

Or, you could get this guy to sell you his: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Xne3qa

And there's this one from Attica (only $1507): http://attica.su/shop/515/desc/colonel-andre-burthe-regiment-hussars

None of these is the one above... so unless someone knows of one, it looks like there's no cheap option :(

Ah... sorry if I'm being stooopid and no doubt some of you here know the bloke, but it's just dawned on me that the sculpt by Ricardo Garijo referenced above is the original for this piece (credited as Red Pilot Models).

The similarities are clear and you can even see the strange seam that Neal queried.

Re the seam: this was 3D modelled so (without knowing much about it) I assume it's due to elements not being 'seamlessly' combined together?

The good news for Mike is that Grod says that other busts and 1/10, 1/16 and 1/20th mounted versions will be released.

    Lace16.JPG Lace15.JPG

Looks like Ricardo was also responsible for the 17th Lancer Bugler and duelling hussars (also from Gordon)

.... and Col Lepic... and Guy Gibson.... and Mad Mitch.... and a whole series of heads which I reckon have popped up in various places....and?
