    Hi planeteers,
    Here's my WIP of the 120mm Verlinden 24th foot colour sargeant. He's had some modifications made to a few area's, some more subtle than others. Hope the pictures turn out ok, am having to post from my android phone. uploadfromtaptalk1438148084224.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1438148418285.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1438148497819.jpg

    Ooops, didn't mean to resend the previous post. For those who may have not read the other thread I've posted a little while back will list the some of the changes. Firstly altered his left arm and tucked it in to his waist as it looks more balanced, I also removed the original collar as it looked to high and made a new one. In the same area I added more of a beard underneath as the original looked like he was wearing a fake one. Evened out the helmet a little. Changed a couple of the buttons on his tunic gave him larger feet as well. Removed original lever of gun to a lowered position as it would be for reloading as well as adding the ram rod at the end under the barrel. Still have a little bit left to do. I need some advice on the bayonet and it's scabbard length. Have really enjoyed this as my first serious figure, I guess the next test is the base and mounting part.

    Hi Chris,
    Here are some pictures I took in the Brecon museum, I also had chance to handle the bayonet, measure and photograph it. The are a couple of different sizes of bayonet length, but use this version for what you want. I don't know if I'm teaching my grandmother to suck eggs here;

    to convert for example this for a 1/16 scale (approx. 120mm) - convert the overall length 25" into mm's

    25"*25.4(this is 25.4 mm per inch)=635mm and to convert for your scale divide by 16, so;

    635/16 = an overall bayonet length for your figure of 39.6mm. Apply this to all the other parts to get the same scale measurements. The scabbard length for the triangular blade is 21.75". I also have the dimension for the bayonet frog but this is hand drawn, but if you need it let me know.

    I would make the socket end of the bayonet with some round sprue and drill a hole in the centre. For the forged blade coming off the socket I would use a fine micro drill and bent pin to make this and pack out the bend with some putty.
    I think for the scabbard again either putty or a combination of this and balsa wood shaped. I have done both versions in the past and both work fine.

    I hope this helps, if you need anything else just give me a shout.
    cheers
    Richie

    Looks to be one of Verlinden's better efforts. Your changes were effective and he photographs very well. Nice job.

    Firstly, many thanks Richie for the info. I thought it would be along the lines of yeah bayonet would be about down to the back of the knee length sort of stuff, so that's brilliant for the reference materials and measurements. And thanks gents for the kind words, really appreciate it Colin, Rob and Colin.

    Hey Tony, thanks mate. I still have a ways to go to get to somewhere near the standards around here, but it means a lot to receive the positive comments.
    Chris.
