Thanks all, progress was made yesterday. There was one moment of abject horror when the acrylic gel reacted with some impurities that had risen to the surface of the resin layer, creating white swirls under the ripples but they appear to have disappeared as it dried. I need to build up the ripples in a couple of additional layers and add some finishing touches but hopefully I will get there by the end of the weekend....

I took Adrian's advice and added a few floating objects which I think really helps. I also added more detritus around the edges of the water to tie it in with the groundwork better. The ripples have come out OK I think, I definitely wanted some movement on the water.
