I bought one today for £30, now I'm a happy man.

I had primed a bust in black halfords spray and instantly regretted it. I tried to get it off with Fairy Power Spray but only with partial success.

So I stuck the head in a shot glass full of Dettol and put this into the cleaner tank (filled with water) and switched it on for an 8 minute cycle. I returned to a glass full of black gunk. I fished out the head rinsed it under the cold tap and it was as good as new, not a bit of paint remained (and no scrubbing needed).

    Result :)

I just had to share this with you, thanks for your time ;)

    That sounds very handy.

    Can you tell us...

    1) was the bust made of resin?

    2) did it come out unscathed?

    3) what particular type of Dettol did you use, as I've never even thought of using it to strip paint?

    thanks

Yes, it was a resin bust foxyboy. I used original Dettol (the brown liquid). It makes an excellent paint stripper and does no damage to white metal or any resin that I've used it on so far.

Rather than just fill the tank with Dettol I decided to isolate it inside another container (the shot glass) for a couple of reasons:

    1. The stuff stinks to high heaven so I didn't want to contaminate the cleaner.
    2. It ain't cheap, if I'd filled the tank it would probably have used the whole bottle.

I've also stripped the body of the bust now although this time it took a couple of runs through the cleaner to get rid of all the paint from the nooks and crannies. I used a small glass bowl this time to contain the bust and the Dettol.

Aldi do them as well for a similar reasonable price, but they aren't continuously in stock.

Lidl have one on their Thursday special list this week funnily enough. Pretty much identical in spec to the one I got, but a tenner cheaper at £19.99
