    As far as I've been able to research, there were no snipers deployed with the Airborne during the Normandy landings. It was the experience with German snipers in Normandy that lead to the development and training of dedicated U.S. snipers in all units, including the airborne. Amongst the very few exceptions to this were the US Army Rangers who did have some trained snipers within their ranks.

    Perhaps not snipers per se, but there are photographs of American paratroopers (perhaps southern France and not Normandy though) with the Springfield '03A3. I'll look through my books and see.

    Yeah, I saw those too. Some were with "rear echelon" units (if there's such a thing in the airborne :lol: ) and others were assigned to fire rifle grenades (to supplement the guys with the Garand for this job).

    BTW, I liked your "parawino" with the Springfield. Too bad I wasn't able to outbit Russ at last year's Tulsa show :(
