I have been watching the TV series TURN, about American war for independence, decent viewing and fairly enjoyable.

I cant help being bemused about historical component though. I have absolutely no knowledge about uniforms of the period, so may be some one will say that's absolutely fine and correct.

Still I thought I should share this:
Here is Benjamin Tallmage, hero and protagonist, of Light Continental Dragoons and his epaulettes :D

Did no one in production team ever pause and think: Hold on, he is wearing 2 cocks and balls on his shoulders???
I cant watch the series now without a giggle ( yes, very immature and proud)

I wasn't even going to go there in fear of being told off for rivet counting (or is it "splitting hairs"??)

Who would be counting rivets ? when there is a bloke stood there with, 3 'Todger's', and 3 pairs of balls. ... No wonder women like men in uniform.:(

I'm going to order one to be made! :D

However, things could have been worse!

Does anyone know if the epaulettes are HISTORICALLY CORRECT? Everyone knows that it is the important thing. Perhaps the term rivet counting should be changed to nut counting for this example.

    I think they are poppycock (sorry, couldn't resist:D )

I cant find any reference for epaulette like this in 2d Continental Light Dragoons. They all seem to be crescent shaped. May be some one knows better.

Even less excuse then. I expect to see them adopted by some half time marching bands at US football games before long.

Joking aside, I just had an audacity to ask the question about historical reference on TURN's official Facebook page...

I must admit I failed to resist pointing out resemblance to a male reproductive organ (in most polite and scientific terms)

Rather surprisingly, my post was removed within 2 minutes, but may be they will send me a PM. I will let you know as soon as I hear more... I can't wait, I am so excited...:nailbiting:
