In the late 80s I had to go up to Sheffield on a job. On the way back to the station my local contact asked if I liked Pork.
He then took me to Quote. "The best Pork butchers in Yorkshire & the Pork pie's were out of this world, and the award winning sausages are to die for."
Well Yours purchased two pies for the train journey home. and a pack of sausages for use at home. ( Have to treat Mrs B when you go away)
Got settled on the train and took a bite from the pie. It along with its twin brother went straight out the window.
As for the sausages cooked them that night, not even the dog would eat them.
    No accounting for taste.

As an affeciendo of the Growler (pork pies) in my opinion the best are from,

    Cockburn's, Bedale http://www.cockburnsbutchers.co.uk/
    Beavers, Masham http://www.beaversbutchers.com/#home
    Kitson's, Northallerton http://www.johnpenny.co.uk/posts/b-...on-stockton-on-tees-and-hutton-rudby-109.html
Appleton's Ripon Problem with their website, must be too busy making delicious pies.

    Nope, none in Sheffield. :smug:

The coincidence between Growler and Beavers is purely coincidental and another quirk of the English language. :D

Not surprised no trace in Sheffield if that was the quality in I would say off the top of my head 1989
They should be out of business shortly after or prosecuted under the trade description act.
Stayed in Northallerton in the Attlee Arms went to a wedding.

Had some nice Black pudding from Bury Market but that's Lancashire

Attlee Arms, Northallerton, are you sure Mick, I've never heard of it.

It pains me to say it but they do some good grub in Lancashire.... all I can think is that Yorkshire folk showed 'em how to do it. :smug:

You have me worried I attended a wedding in 1980 I got the train to Darlington picked up by tractor and cart and driven to the Family farm at Northallerton Which I have managed to locate. The wedding was held in an old church that appeared to be in the middle of a field as I got covered in sheep shit getting to it.
Had wedding breakfast in village hall, and B&B in the local pub, I actually stayed in the land ladies daughters room as all guest rooms were taken for the wedding.(Daughter not there at the time. Always said it was the attlee arms so god knows just tried to find it and can't.
    Confused from Folkestone.
