Ladies and Gentelmen, I finally finished our Viking warrior and explorer.
Thanks for your patience and all of your encouragement ,it was a big help.

Our Viking stands proudly on the soil of the new world looking towards the horizon and reminiscing his native land, his loving family that he left so long ago and dreaming of the day when he would return.

Your comments ,as usual ,are always welcome.

I still need to add some more highlights and shadows ,the mud on the clothes needs more highlights and some shadows..

Beautiful figure Roc..........I love the way he has turned out. I agree with you tho about adding some more mud and highlighting it, he has mud on his cape and sheild, but none on his leggings. Whats next my friend?

Rocco, that's nice ! (y) But I wonder, isn't there an extra piece to add to the helmet ?

    Awesome !!
    Your work is amazing....
I am just wondering about the shiny mud on the lower part of the cape , I would give that part a more Matte finish ... am I wrong ?
    Congratulations !

    Johan,thanks, appreciate it.

The piece I left out is part of the helmet, sort of a face protector, I didn't want to hide the face.

Hello Julian, thank you very much for your kind words and encouragement.

The reason why the mud on the cape appears wet is because I used oils to portray the mud and is not dry yet, as soon as it dries I will highlight the upper part of the mud with raw umber + white mixed into it.
When completely dry I will give it the mat look.

    Very nice, Roc :)

I especially like the work on the wood grain on the ax. Perfect.

The blonde hair is well done, too!

    Good work there, Rocco!

I really like the blond hair. If youre going to add more dirt to the pants and cape. Perhaps it could be more dusty than muddy?

    Rocco,

Very nice painting, especially you'd capture the proud facial expression very well. Perhaps, just one minor suggestion is that the veins ( the two side of the veins which had a darker mix ) on the hands can be a bit subdue or tone down with slightly lighter colour and make the end of the veins in mid arm fade out more.

Vince, my friend, thanks for the kind words and advice, I appreciate it.

Thanks for pointing the veins out, as you know I paint in oils, therefore I must wait till it's completely dry before I tone down the veins, I will go over the veins with a medium flesh highlight using the glazing technique.

    Ciao

That is such a beautiful figure that you painted! A really nice expression on his face. The whole figure is just very, very nice!

You've done a good job, and I'll be interested to see what the final version looks like once everything is dry and the glazes are in place. Hate to say it, but so far as I know, the nasal bar was an integral part of the helmets of that time. It might cover the face, but that is the more accurate way to go.

    Dear Roc,

A very beautifully painted figure, as always.

I have one comment. You may want to watch your background as there are some folds at the level of the head. A smooth background will definitely do justice to your beautifully painted figure.

    regards :)
