The Vigil - Tiger tank 1/16th and DAK Commander

This all came about as the Tiger turret was left over from another project (nearly finished),
I bought a 1/16 HobbyBoss Tiger and then bought a replacement upper deck and turret by Taigen as it had opening hatches.
This left me pondering for a while what to do with the original turret but then the idea of mounting it on some kind of pedestal, with a figure perched on it somewhere sprang to mind.
The figure is from AFV Modeller, they have a small but nice collection of figure for German vehicles in 1/16th scale and I liked the idea of him sat there staring out into the distance.
The pedestal is my creation, the base of which started out as two end caps for guttering.

Painting eyes for me is one of the greaterst challenges but, if you look closely, you might see that he doesn't have any eyes at all. I think I pulled it off okay as he's squinting so much there wasn't much to paint anyway.

I'm really happy with the outcome, so much so that I'm now working on its counterpart, a Sherman turret with two crew members, again mounted on a custom made pedestal.
I will post some photos of that once I can get it finished.
It's a bit different, hope you like it.

May your brushes stay clean and your paint run smooth.
    Best wishes,

Beautiful. Great dusty finish, and super finish on the turret too. Looking forward to the Sherman version.

Nice job Dave, figure works well for this and nice use of the gutter caps, would not have known if you hadn't mentioned it.

Fantastic work on the figure, greatcoat is very impressive, & the Tiger turret stands out - I like the inclusion of the turret race.

Nice work! How did you make the flag on the turret?
  14. China Dave Active Member

The flag was made from a small peice of an old handkerchief as the cotton was worn and very thin.
I downloaded the image and resized it to my needs, cut it into the three parts, swatstika, roundel and background and use these as a template to draw them onto the cotton with a fine tipped waterproof pen.
The rear of the turret was masked off and a watered down solution of PVA applied to the cotton which I then draped over the model, I pushed it around with toothpicks until I was happy with how it looked and then left it to dry.
I could still see my black outline of the flag through the PVA and this was my painting guide, the rest was just the same as painting anything else.
It was finished off with a liberal dusty wash to fade everything.

BEAUTIFUL !!!!! This has so much character. I love, love, love it!

I still think you should paint the eyes. It is hard to do, but you have the force within you!!!! bahahahahahahaha......

Something unusual. Love what you've done with the turret. Where can I get a pair of those boots ? !
