I've had this in my grey army to a good few years and felt its about time I pulled my finger out
    and painted it.
It's a fantastic Sculpt from Sean Green. This was a very limited edition, only around 15 cast
and I was very fortunate to get one.
    All acrylics at this stage.

That is a really wonderful figure, lovely characterful face. Looks like Brian Cox.

It was based on a drawing by JB Monge, who Sean did the Sculpt for, and was allowed to cast a few for friends. 1000009700.jpg

So am I, I'm hope to be able to replicate the glow. Going to try oils to produce a waxy sheen for the candle.
I've already paint the flame in acrylics, which looks ok, so fingers crossed I create the desired effect.
A friend of mine melted some wax over the top, which naturally gave a good effect.

That is a cracking figure and painted superbly, all character, mischief and malice, going to enjoy seeing you bring him to life.

Nap, what have you gotten me into. I hadn't given much thought to the candle, and your post gave me the idea to try and replicate the drawing.
I've not attempted anything like that before....
At this stage its all acrylics, and the first highlight has been applied.

In the next session, I'll switch to oils to make a smooth graduation on the contrasting colours.

Very nice, not as easy task to depict fire and cast light but if this is your start you have no trouble.

The candle has been overpainted in oils, allowing the contrasting colours to blend together nicely.
I'm allowing this to dry out for a couple of days before adding more detail.
I've even had a sneaky thought for adding a final touch. ;)

Nap seems to be rubbing off on me now, I've started prepping a couple of busts to paint
    When the Gnome is finished.

At this rate I'm going to need a bigger house.

Not had much time to paint over the past few days. More Grandad duty with one of my granddaughters thinking I'd make a good climbing frame and human slide.
I've added more detail to the flame with the addition of some gloss varnish, and Super glue to the droplets.
Painted the flesh on the arms with acrylics, using some oil glazes, and finally block out the shirt after under painting.

The work on the candle is very effective. Looks good.
Are you going to do the OSL?

Really looking good, the candle is great it fairly glows and just a bit of OSL would look brilliant.
