The Fusilier

I was looking at the Fusilier web site fairly recently and lusting after a scene of German WW1 infantry getting ready to go over the top, and a couple of 80mm (1/24) RAF pilots to accompany the 1/24 Airfix Typhoon I have (which I managed to buy for £50 in the U.K. And smuggle to my man cave in Switzerland without getting caught... ).

I went to the site yesterday and it seems it's down and there was some wonderful stuff on it which stuff produced . Does anyone know what's happened? Is Steve ok?

Any response would be much appreciated.

I was wondering the same thing. Did you hear anything, Huw?

    No idea what's going on.

He was very active late '90s / early '00s with quite an extensive range, then seemed to vanish for a few years, then reappeared with a small range new figures plus and a few reissues of his older stuff, now seems to have gone quiet again of late.

    Hi fellows!
Steve's FB page is still active so to speak, but it seems he has been homeless lately. Unless that is a joke I didn't understand, but there isn't anything about recent activity as a figure sculptor . Rather strange as his range of WWI figures was/is really outstanding. I'd love to hear any positive news from or about him.

I heard his marriage had broken up a couple of years ago. If he has been homeless that’s a tragedy. No one seems able to contact him.

Very sad indeed. In the 80's and 90's we had a very good contact when Steve was full of plans for his Fusilier range. The last I heard from him was in 2017 when he made a pilgrimage walk to Santiago de Compostella, after that it was radio silence!

Fusillier Miniatures is still existing but doing only " Toy Soldiers"

the name "Fusillier Miniatures" was bought long ago by Paul and Mark Turner

    also read !!!!

I think you speak about The Fusilier ( advertising in 1993 )

The link to the webbsite is dead since Aug 2017, few weeks before had a forum partner placed an order and received it . And as Akaryu said, on facebook in aug 2017 he
wrote that he "...walking the Carmeno de Santiago in Spain"

Red Lancers (according to their website) have a great range of Fusilier Miniatures in stock but unfortunately, due to the unforseen passing of its owner, I think this may prove to be long shot as I have not received any email replys to my messages. Still its a good source of reference for us to look at. Shame as there are some real beautys in there that I would love to add to my ever growing grey army!

I think some of us are confusing two similarly named companies here. I am interested in The Fusilier ,the British WW1 specialists, as per Mirosoft's attachment above.

To avoid any confusion: The Fusilier is/was a one-man operation by Steve Warrilow, specializing in WW1 figures in 75/80mm, first ones in resin, then switching to metal and back again to resin. Steve had nothing to do with the firm named Fusilier Miniatures which produces toy soldiers.

Thanks Pierre and Roger - very helpful. One omission though is the oxygen mask - the Typhoon pilots had to use oxygen all the time as the cabin used to fill with carbon monoxide and they never solved the issue. What would health and safety say today?

To be fair Huw he's not actually in the aircraft. :)

Steve's had a tough time in recent years & working through things.
This impacted severely & unexpectedly his "The Fusilier" range beyond his control.
I caught up with him in Liverpool a year ago, had a wonderful chat about modelling & life in general.
Look forward to him rejoining our community here one day.
In meantime I continue to collect & plan doing more of Steve's lovely little ANZACs.

Steve has just got in contact with me via Facebook after I sent him a message. He is not currently producing any figures at the moment but when he closed down Fusilier Miniatures he gave what was left to Oakwood Studios. It may be worth sending them a message to see if they can help out with any figures you are after. This is the one I'm really after - a 1/12 1914 French Infantryman (FUS--12-09)
