I'd be willing to bet a round of drinks in the Clifton bar that - that as nice as the B.o.S. winner is - this Maj. Peirson diorama would be "the people's choice" for B.o.S. Certainly some of the comments I've read on the Internet would seem to bear that out.

And meaning no disrespect to the actual winner (I like many others could only dream about being able to produce something like that), it would probably be mine. Either this one or the scratch-built fantasy piece "Leviathan" which I thought was an absolute stunner.

Think that is a gold medal, commented the artist.
But it could certainly be the BOS.

    Amazing !!!!

My theory as to why this didn't get B.o.S. is that last year's B.o.S. was based on a painting and the judges didn't want to set a pattern (or be seen to be setting a pattern).

Just a theory - I might be talking cods! :woot:

I liked the fluidity and flow. Very artful. I didn't attend but I too would have chosen this based on pix only (and that isn't a fair way if assessing).Wasn't the sculptor the same as last year's BoS? Could that have been a factor?

This year's BOS was based on a Victorian painting,"Eastward Ho!" by Henry Nelson O'neil, so the pattern is already set, I would guess.

This was my personal wish for best of show at Folkestone gentlemen.
    I think it is superb,
    Atmospheric
    Dignified
    And tragic.
I looked at it over and over again.
No other model or figure held my attention like this.
    Fanstic and inspiring.
    Thank you for displaying it.
I would have liked to say this in person to you, but I didn't meet you.

    More please !

    Gus, and Antonio,

Outstanding piece of work! Very true to the original painting which is very, very hard to do. My hats off to you both. On the BOS, well I wasn't a judge, but if I were......

    Best Regards,

    Rod
