Just finished painting a figure that I sculpted for Alpine in 1/16th a couple years ago. Going for a "Band of Brothers" feel for the piece. Hope you guys like it Airborne.jpg Airborne2.jpg

Outstanding, I like it a lot, Congratulations!!.
In my opinion, the most remarkable thing is that you have been able to capture the atmosphere of the moment, for me that is very important when painting a figure.
About the sculpture I already know your extraordinary abilities. A great job.

    Hi John
Keep looking at that painted face with the blood and soot type colour around the eyes and down the face. What medium have you painted the face in? Did you paint this and the Pegaso Paratrooper around the same time, because this face reminded me of it. Do you have a WIP or vid of how you paint faces somewhere on the web?

Thanks guys for the kudos, happy it’s well received

Mr BMB-:I just finished painting this one a couple of days ago, the 1/9 th Pegaso figure couple years ago. Very similar paint process, in fact I used my notes from that figure for this one. I don’t have a tutorial on line for face painting but I used all acrylics, Vallejo and MSP paints.Once completed I brushed on Vallejo Matt varnish to seal in the paint giving it a couple hours to dry. The blood was acrylics and the dirt, soot and grime was thin streaking washes of flat black and 822 Vallejo German Camo black brown... very thin. The Matt varnish seals in what you have and Happy with then you can work the dirt / blood on that barrier coat till Happy... kind of push it around if that makes sense and is helpful

Thanks John for reply, it's funny years ago people/artists use to use oils for flesh because it would have a little shine to it and not look flat, now we are back to acrylics which dry matt.
I know you don't do much and have heaps of time on your hands but you really need/deserve your own sculpting/painting book. You have sculpted and painted so many great figures over your time, would love to read about your sculpting/painting history of miniatures and throw a howto DVD in there as well . The FAQ modelling of JRo :)
I saw/have one of your sculpting articles on the US S&T tankers but its just not enough...……..it's not enough JRo!!!
