This bust is from Nuts planet, very nicely sculpted and detailed.
It requires a little cleaning up, but nothing major.
At this point, I've selected a wooden base, removed the flashing, and started to drill
and peg the components so that they will secure nicely.

Malc, I have had this on the bench for a couple of years, drifting back and forward to it's a really nice bust and very popular, however it's notorious when it comes to the fitting of the faceplates to the cheeks, the head inside the hood and this assembly onto the body, oh and the wee tie strings so keep the swear handy and looking forward to see what you do with it.

Thanks for the heads up Terry, certainly looks like I'll need my thinking cap on when its comes to assembly.
Think I may start painting another bust while I work on this, to keep the painting going, and I have a bust in mind already. :D

Assemble first then paint, or paint then try to assemble cleanly. Difficult one. Must be a good solution somewhere as there are some lovely versions of this bust around the web galleries.

Terry has pointed out some interesting points. A fellow member at my club has painted this, so I'll enquire how he went about it.
Yes, the base is very nice, although not from Oakwood, it was my by a friend of mine, who I used to see at FigureWorld.
I used one for Napoleon, that one has Brass inlaid.

And now you can see what I have chosen to paint alongside.

Malc, I painted the body/scarf, armour and sleeves first and left the cloak before assembly, then I painted the face/neck/hair, helmet and inside of the hood, faceplates before assembly, I tried a dry fit with these painted sections over and over again, they kept falling off, falling out of position, tried wee small bits of blu-tac which worked a bit but didn't give me a true end result because of it's thickness etc but it gave me an idea of how the hood assembly would line up with the collar and shoulders of the body, I messed about that much I eventually just had to go for it and get the glue onto the parts, the end result wasn't perfect but I decided it would do, I then had to use fillers where the hood meets the shoulders and to sort out any wee gaps, I then added the faceplate ties that I had previously painted, working with the painted parts resulted in having to touch up bits here and there, I then painted the cloak and outside of the hood and that more or less got me through the stage but I was still noticing other wee places where touch ups were needed in the nooks and crannies, this section has now been set aside while I work on the Eagle.

Thanks to Terry for his advice, I'm taking a more care in my preparation of this bust.
I had trouble in getting the head to sit correctly, so I spent some time making some adjustments.
Initially I was hoping to paint the face before setting in position, but felt in this case, I'd be better off cementing it to the torso now.
I've made a few dry runs with the hood to make sure its sits in position correctly, however it will need some filler inside and out, as Terry mentioned.

Both photos show where the filler will be required.

Fingers crossed I'm hoping to start painting the face on Friday.

Cheek pads will cover a lot of face but with them and the hood he'll look quite menacing, going to be a good one to watch.

Yeah Malc that might be better than fiddling around with several parts that have already been painted, I was annoyed at the damage that I had to touch up, once I eventually got mine stuck together I had to add filler and that caused more damage to painted sections that needed touched up, I also felt that I hadn't managed to get head and hood onto the body exactly right and the subject was looking down rather than straight ahead but by that stage I had had enough and decided F it, but looking at your assembly it looks similar, so thanks for that, took a couple of photos last night, not sure if they will help.

Looking forward to your crack at this one. An awesome bust I've had in my basket a couple of times.
The hood makes the piece imo. . Very cool touch.

    Good luck going forward!
