This is the first flat I sculpted...and it was some time ago. It was taken from one of the superb plates in the osprey title 'The age of Tamerlane' MAA 222, and shows Tamerlane in his later years...As this was my first flat, it was sculpted directly on a small off-cut of plasticard....unbelievably..and fortunately for me, I was able to remove it in one piece...wouldn't like to try it again though.

He is around 90mm scale...As always any comments are welcome..

Excellent work Roy. Is the one pictured in Red Lancers painted by you as well? This has always been a favorite period of time for me and I may just have to give Chuck a call.

    Roy,

Very nice work. Flats must have their own particular challenges. You did a good job at conveying a sense of depth. And the folds look very convincing.

Guy...thanks...I think it might be the one I painted...I'veposted a pic of mine below.
It's a period that appeals to me too guy....it's full of great characters and tales.

Shane, thanks for your kind comments..as I say this was my first flat...and they sure present a unique challenge..creating that illusion of depth and perspective at the sculpting stage is the single most difficult thing and did give me a few head-aches...I think I still got some... :)

Anyways...here's my painted effort...also the first flat I'd ever painted...

Here we go again! ;) Please insert the sound of the broken record .........here.......... another great flat Roy. Well now, we have really seen quite a few flats or demi rounds here lately. More than in any recent time I can remember anyway. Now we need to start seeing more painted versions!

Thanks to all you guys...it's great that you are all willing to take a look at the flat side of the hobby, it's always been of great interest to me, although I don't paint many I have a fair few in my collection.

Jim, sorry about the repeats..lol..but I thought I would put them all in my vbench...I have another couple that will be along shortly.....only joking..!! I'll leave it for a couple of days as I need to get some good pictures.

Konrad...I sent you an e-mail regarding this one....now you're talking!...I'd love to see your style applied to this fellow.

    Thanks again....Roy.

I would also like to see Konrads' style applied to this flat. Would be awesome, I am sure.

Nice one Roy! I think I do recall seeing examples of this one from time to time appearing in magazines etc, and small as wonder it really is excellent and offers lots of scope to the painter.
