    Very nice, Roger! Welcome back.

To be a little more specific, that's a Karabinier. The Austrians designated a troop in each cuirassier regiment to act as carabiniers, to provide some heavier firepower when the troop was dismounted. They were given the Trombon depicted here, and they carried the curved saber, as opposed to the pallasch the rest of the regiment carried. They also had the deeper Stolpen, the boot tops, than the rest of the regiment.

Forgive me, I don't mean to show off; I just researched this subject myself, to paint one in 54mm fully round ;) I've got a Stadden casting that I'm using for the basis of a kitbash.

That pose is based on an illustration from one of the Funcken books, if I'm not mistaken. Conny gave me a copy of the image.

What I'd like to know, but haven't yet been able to find out, is if this led to the full-fledged carabinier regiments, if the cuirassiers all gave up their Karabiniere to form carabinier regiments, or if there is no connection.

But I've hijacked your thread enough! I'm with the others, I like how it's turning out, especially your highlights and shadowing.

    Prost!

Thanks for the welcome back Brad, please don't worry about thread hi-jacking I'm all for it and thanks for the additional info. Here's an interesting page about the weapon, in Czech but easily translated with Google. http://starozitnostiharak.wz.cz/palne_dlouhe/palnezbrane.dlouhe.puska17.html
Here is the Funcken illustration the figure is based on.

In hindsight and following some research I wish I had chosen one of the regiments with red breeches but nevermind.

Thanks very much Daniel, there's still some work to do on the reds but that will be tomorrows job.
