Here are some photos of first sculpt. She's 1/8th scale and made out of Super Sculpey. I painted her with Genesis heat set oils. The hands aren't that great, but I figure not too bad for my first try.

And thanks to Glen Phillips for some photo tips!

Your first sculpt? That is really great for your first sculpture. Well done.

for the first sculpt that is really good. I still think you need to get in those shadows more. Push yourself to do it, you can paint you just gotta make yourself push further.

Jeff, Mike and Anthony, thanks for stopping by and commenting!

I've been reading Sheperd Paine's book to see how and where I can address the contrasts. A lot of interesting stuff there. I'd like to get rid of the washed out look on some of these, but I'm still leery to go too far on the shadows with the girl kits. I'm afraid they'll look like they've been out plowing fields for the last few weeks!

We'll see how I fare, I've got a few more older ones to post and I'm coming close to finishing a few new ones as well. It's fun getting back into the swing of making figures!

For a first sculpt it is excellent.

You've got the proportions spot on James. I to agree with Mike, you could add more variety to the flesh tones.

Well done! She has a bit of a asian look and all the proportions look spot on. Was this sculpted in one go, or was it built up in layers over an armature?

Pushing the shadows and highlights is a bit of a minefield and it'll take some experimentation/practice. I do mainly 54mm medieval foot figures and when I do the occassional girl kit, they always look like Crusaders who've been on campaign for four months. When I tone it down, they look like bloodless vampires. Somewhere there's a happy medium...

    Nice pics btw.

    Cheers,

    Glen

James, excellent sculpting . The female figure isn't the easiest subject to attempt for your first , congratulations and looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks for the comments everyone! This one was done over an armature in a couple layers with some baking in between.

This is only your first sculpt? Outstanding, well done! I can't wait to see your next one. I like your presentation as well, like she's sitting on a piece of volcanic rock on the shore. yes, well done!

    Prost!
