Blimey! Glad you like it! This is gonna be fun :)

This is a really characterful Bust and it's a piece I knew I wanted to paint as soon as I saw the shots of it " In the putty " ...

The more eagle eyed of you will have spotted that this is an expansion on a smaller 120mm sculpt of a frozen German that I painted a few months ago

I need to get the 2 paras off the bench before I really get into this bust so expect a delay of at least a week, or so :)

    Many, many thanks everyone!

    Mark

    Absolutely fantastic !!!

    both in the painting, Mark
    and in the sculpting, Stuart

Im a huge fan of your range Stuart and am kicking myself for not buying a couple at Euro a few years back

Can I ask if at any point those earlier Stalingrad figures in 120mm will be rereleased or have they gone forever ?

    Best Wishes

    Andy

Something tells me this one is going to look great :), nice idea to do a bust version of the 1/16 figure.

    Hi Again!

Andy, Robert, Dan, Carl and Steve! Thanks for the input/comments guys :)

Well now that the Para Officer is done ( pending Stu's approval :) ) I have started actually painting this fellow so in reverse order here it is as far as I have got, still some work tweaking and the beard and brows need work, but essentially all the colours are there and in place

    :)

    and a 3 view for context .....

and finally an SBS Sequence .....

A to C ... Used my airbrush to lay down some base colours

    A ... GW Dark Flesh
    B ... GW Dwarf Flesh
    C ... AV Basic Skin

from here all work is with conventional brushes,a Citadel Fine Detail for the skin and for the eyes a Creative Models Red Sable 3/0 from my LHS

D ... GW Blood Red glazed on.
E ... GW Regal Blue in creases and around the eyes
F ... AV Light Flesh on the eye balls and to pick out details
G ... More Blood Red and into the eyes
H ... Dwarf Flesh glazed to soften transitions
I ... More reds and Blues and then more Dwarf Flesh to soften the transitions and add depth to the skin
J ... More Blues and GW Elf Flesh to highlight, Beard picked out with AV English Uniform
K ... I re worked the high lights with AV Light flesh and then used very thin glazes of all my colours to tighten and tidy up the details also a wash of AV Ger. Cam. Blk. Brown into the hair and around the toque

The next steps deal just with the eyes....

L & M ... lined the top lid and drew in two eye shapes with AV Ger. Cam. Blk. Brown
N ... An area of Dark blue with a dot of light blue in the bottom of the Iris, pupil re established with the AV Ger. Cam. Blk. Brown
O ... Highlights of AV Off White added on the eyeball and iris

    P ... Lightened Final image

    :)

Hope I ain't bored the pants off anyone and hope someone finds it informative

    ;)

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for going to so much trouble to show us your technique. It's amazing to see how many small steps and subtle effects you incorporate into your flesh work. I really appreciate you doing this SBS.

Les ... Thanks and no problem :)

Carl ... Cheers and no probs :)

Pedro ... Thanks again man! :)

    Face progression ...

I've done the last colour tweaks and next will add some Klear to the eyes and lips and around the nose area, I may add some more reds to the nose but ....

Started the side cap, still lots to do :)

Fiddled with the hair, I kinda like where its at but want to add some blue washes to see what that does :)

    Adrian .... Thanks :)

Ken ... Ah go on! ;)

Pedro .... Thanks and there will be more ice yet :)

    Glossy red bits :) ...

    Fnarr ..... So..
Top shows face at effectively the end of painting.
Mid shows Klear in eyes, mouth and over nose and cheeks, also added some red to a bit of Klear to get some really shiny bits :)
Bottom I re did the lightest highlights in very thin matt glazes ...

Face is finished for now, once I have the whole thing finished I plan on adding ice to the tash, brows and possibly clothing :)

I think this is your best bit of face painting to date, not that there was anything up with your other stuff.
