Here my try to paint a very good figure from Jon Smith. Now I will put it on the base and will make the ground. After that I will try to make the figure looking old, dirty and ragged.

There are lights and shades but I have make the photos with not so much light but the camera had compensated that. I must "play" a little bit with my camera, I fear, before I get "good" photos. The face is painted very pale because I want to show a tired and disillusioned young soldier. Hope that my next photos will be better.

I have changed the figure a little bit. I have shorten the shovel handle and have made a wire cutter. I have found such a soldier in an book.

Hope it is not to bad. Comments and critics are welcome

Ulrich, you know I can't give any advice on photography:D but I like what I see so far. The addition of the wire cutters is very good.

    Roger.

    PS Nice base :D

great looking figure by Jon Smith Ulrich, I agree the addition of the wire cutters is a nice touch and very useful if he is going to breach the wire to get to he enemy trench.

    Nice work

    Thanks Steve and Gordy

The first picture shows the original photo from which Jon Smith had his idea, the second one is the guy with the wire cutter

Not really satisfied with the pictures but here some examples from my finished storm trooper.

As you can see I have played with the lights and the settings of my camera, but didn´t found the corrects settings at all. But I will try it further on

Can't help on the photography front, love the setting. I take it you've scratch built the wire?

That basework really sets the figure of nicely mate, as for cameras they are harder to master than figures :(, I am still trying to work mine out without success.

    Nice work mate

    really nice work Ullrich.
But the pigtails are to short. Normally they are almost 1,50 to 1.80 (6 feet) m high.

    Thanks, Steve and Marc.

@ Steve: Someday I will be able to "talk" with my camera and I will get the photos I want to have.

@ Marc: Are you sure (if pigtails are the wire-holder) with the height? 1,80 means they would be so high as the most soldiers?

I have that photo from wikipedia and the title is "Battle at the somme"

Here it could be that they are not so high. But on another photo I think your meaning 1,50 m is ok

So let us say my "Pigtails" are "destroyed". I want to have something near the earth, so I beg your pardon if it is not "correct"

Thank you, Marcel and Gordy. I love "damaged" pigtails. BTW. We have here a workshop end of next week and, instead of painting, I will play with my camera to "find" to correct settings
