    Maybe this helps you:

In the novel "Das geduldige Fleisch" (= "The patient meat")
appeared in 1955 of Willi Heinrich on which both "Steiner" movies with Bruce Coburn (1 film) and Richard Burton (2nd film) are based "Steiner" carries the following Orders and honourings:

The tape of the iron cross 2nd class ("Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse") in the buttonhole...:

Under that ribbon - even in the same buttonhole! - there must to be seen the ribbon of the medal for winter-combat in the east ("Winterkampf im Osten")...:

The iron cross 1st class ("Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse") on the left breast pocket...:

Beside the Iron Cross the infantry-storm badge in silver ("Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber")...:

Over both honourings - over the left brest pocket - the silver fight brace ("Silberne Nahkampf-Spange")...:

And on the other breast pocket the so-called "German cross in Gold" ("Deutsches Kreuz in Gold")...:

    Martin,

thanks for your attention and back ground info. I'll try to capture Steiner as close as possible to be seen in his role on the screen.

    Steve,

thank you very much for your support in this one!

    René
