    Hi friends on pF
I picked up this nice little Voltigeur by the guys at Sovereign 2000 at the Gravesham M.M.Club open day in October this year.

The tatty state of the shako bad weather cover, firewood and axe on the back pack caught my eye and, as you do, I just had to get one.

So far I have primed him with Halfords grey primer and blocked out everything in acrylic, waiting for the oil layers and further weathering.

I hope that you like him thus far.

    Keith

This is looking good Kieth. Still soaking up the Burgundy I hope :)
Oil skin shako cover can really change a figure and make it look like campaign tenue

    HI Roger.
When I saw this in the flesh I was amazed that it has not been more popular for Sovereign.
I am sure that you would enjoy painting him.
    Thanks for your comments,

    HI Steve,
Many thanks for your kind comments.
I try to get a good idea of what I am looking for using acrylic paint as it hardens quickly. I then use oils because I can blend and add glaze layers better. I have; a lot to learn about painting with acrylics.
    Cheers

Yes we are still lapping up the vin rouge in la belle France........at the right price.
Ihope that you and the tartan army are all well.
I agree that the tatty shako cover does make a piece look really war torn.
    All the very best,
    Keith

    Great start Keith (y)

Strangely, the best bit for me so far is the firewood. I saw it and immediately thought of Silver Birch, very convincing. I also like the texture on his blanket, makes me feel itchy just looking at it ;)

    All the best mate (y)

    Thanks Billy
The silver birch was a bit time consuming with the bark and moss etc. but I am happy with the result.
Hands up the blanket texture was already on the casting and not too difficult to maintain.
All the best for the coming festivities Mate,
