Something out of the spares box

To relieve the boredom of the lockdown , a rummage through the spares box conjured up this piece .

It took a good 20hours to get to this stage eight of which was dedicated to getting the horse harness , sabretache and sword slings in place . the figure is on a downward slope to try and give it a bit of movement.

Paul thanks for the comments , re the spares box there is enough for four horses and plenty of bodies legs and heads but have ran out of arms,I know Dave Mitchell has a mighty box of spares so may have to pay him a visit and risk arrest

I wish I had your spares box too. A hussar I take it or a Guarde d'Honneur.
  6. Ronaldo A Fixture

I was thinking the second hussars officer superior , but could go with Garde d Honneur

Lovely painting Ronaldo. What medium do you use with your oils? Looking forward to the finished product. As others have mentioned, you must have an amazing spares box - especially as they appear to be Metal Modeles.

    Hi Chris
Thank you for the kind comments .

The paints used on the horse and Tiger skin were for the horse, Old Holland oils , Burnt Siena , Naples yellow for the highlights and Mars Black for the deepest shades,.
The only medium I use on oils is turpentine , the paint is applied very diluted over a tamiya undercoat ;in this instance (Flat Earth 52) applied with an air brush.

The tiger skin was , gold ochre , Raw umber and a tad Tit White applied as above but dry on dry , same undercoat then a dusting of (Deck Tan XF 55 ).

Thanks Kevin, as you say Tiger skin is difficult ; all to easy to end up looking like Tony the tiger from the Frosties pack :)

Done a bit more to this , horses tail added , picture shows how I intend to fit the sabretache , find this the easiest method as you can get all the slings cut to size for the fit and once glued in position its easy to fasten them .
Bit work done on the rider but had to stop as my last detail brush no longer has point
