    Hi all

As you know I am new here and when I came onboard to let you all know about my Golden Sprue Awards project, having a look around here has certainly sparked my interest in Figure Modelling.

I have been a scale modeller since 1977 and have shyed away from Figure Painting as I wouldn't consider hand painting to be a particular skill I have and have always felt a bit daunted by it.

In pulling together my project I have come across some new brands in all modelling genres as well as communities and in the time I have been here I have admired some of the beautiful work you all have.

So can you help me as I would love to explore this more.

As a beginner what do you recommend as regards to manufacturers, I will probably have a preference towards fantasy subjects rather than military figures.

Then tools of the trade, the majority of my huge collection of paint is geared towards airbrushing so is there a particular brand that you would recommend for a beginner

Any other tips you can throw my way will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Warren. Regarding manufacturers the list is pretty well endless, even those such as Tartar, normally associated with excellent historical pieces has a substantial range of fantasy pieces.
Given that you have 40+years experience and your prference for fantasy here's my suggestion that gives you in one a bust a full figure and a whole raft of different textures.
If you go for it I can pretty much guarantee an impressive result

With regards paint I'm an out and out oil guy so probably better to leave recommendations to the acrylic weirdos ;)
