    Dear All,

My modelling has been a bit all over the place for the last wee while due to work and other personal matters... and whilst I have a number of items I want to finish off, they are currently packed away on boxes, and so I decided to crack on with a couple of figures that were easy to find...

This is the excellent Sgt Ewart sculpt from Mitches Models. The figures of Sgt Ewart and the Ensign go together very nicely with minimal need for filler. The horse however was a bit of a bugger (but that is mainly due to the rustiness of my skills. The only issue I have with the kit is that the horses bridle is incorrect - however, this is easily solved with a sharp knife and some patience. The horses bit and reigns are going to be a bit challenging, along with some elements of Sgt Ewarts equipment as I appear to have mislaid them... so this will require some scratch building.

All comments, observations and errors / omissions gratefully received.

I love what you're doing here, enjoy it and keep us all posted.
About 20 years ago I did this diorama, I think it was 90mm Hinchcliffe.
    Keep up the good work.

It's good to see this with colour-looking great. I remember Moss's old Roll Call rendition of this encounter which I really liked and he seems to have gone one better with this-Port-Aigle is marvellous.
I'll have to save even more pennies now.

Um...Shouldn't the horse be a Grey?

The Household Regiment's preferred the dark bays/blacks, so I suppose he may well have been re-equipped with a different horse if a suitable grey wasn't available.

As a NCO (and incidentally, regiment swordmaster) Ewart would not have carried a carbine - or
obviously the carbine sling. The moustache has always been a moot point - I believe the official
regimental artist Dighton received permission to portray them with one, which suggests that some
of the greys wore them some of the time. The 2nd RNBD rode grey horses (the clue's in the name)
which had docked tails. Fault for any inconsistencies here belongs to poor research of the manufacturer
and not to the modeller trying his best to produce an excellent job.

Should be on a grey with a docked tail. My understanding is that the Scots Greys wore moustaches.
