Good set of references there, I've always gone for the red-brown leather from the illustrations but the faded real examples are interesting. Age will have paid a part in the colour fades but then so would arduous use on Campaign. Be interesting to see what you do.

No idea what it will look like but hopefully good ....drilling 'Ole's is fun ! .....looking at using cocktail stick ends for rounds ....either that or a lot of delicate putty work

Don't revert to putty when you can use something that is already the right size and shape. Cocktail stick ends will need just a little clean up but getting consistent looking results from putty isn't always all that easy.

These for instance are simple bits of brass rod nipped off and glued into place. Still not brilliant but hand on heart I can say I didn't put too much effort into it, as you can tell from the painting.

    I like that figure

    Drilling went well on bandolier

I sanded down 5 cocktails sticks ....taking a long time so out came Putty ...now drying .......we shall see what happens

....the rounds ....they will need cutting down once hardened

image.jpg ..... if these don't look right ...out will come the sanding pads !

So they will just slot into the drilled holes? Definitely gonna look the part, always worth the effort for the extra detail.

    Hopefully ! ...lol

    They won't actually fire though.....!!!!

Mick sent me this great picture ....look at the rounds in the front kneeling .........the reason for different lengths ....

    quote
"wear on the round pouch. Its the 82 pattern so may be an older one that was used for the .405 boxer cartridge, which was a bit thicker"

Look at the variety of headwear as well !....

    ....and shirts , issue,striped , checkered , civilian !! ........and belts !

Love finding stuff like this out

A right motley bunch, guess nothing much ever changes in the British Army, the only time we ever have the right kit is at the end of a conflict and always start with the wrong stuff so it's a case of make do and mend for most of the time.

Shouldn't complain though, no matter how bad it may seem those who went before seem to have had it a lot rougher, proper hard men.

After a lot of muttering under my breath , drilling out the bandolier and then fitting the rounds in various sections ....

Currently looking like its needing a dental visit !

Also reworked the water bottle to the 1895 version

Now fitting the straps onto the bottle , need to wait for these to harden then onward with painting

    Have FUN @ the bench
