    The professional soldiers went to war with the stiffened 1902 caps like the first five photos. By 1915 the softer and more functional Gor Blimey was in widespread use.

    Dan,
    I am sorry but you are showing a modern Royal Signals badge. In WW! the Sigs were a branch of the Royal Engineers. In WW2 their badge was within a circlet not free standing.

    here is a pic of my uncle Albert upon enlisting as a driver in the Royal Field Artillery, 1914. I thought it was interesting as it shows the Service cap with its cover.

    Excellent Steve! Many thanks! I guess I didn't even know there was a cover for the 1902 hat. If you don't mind my asking, where was he from?
