Assassination attempt on "The Night Watch"...!

On September 14, 1975, at the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum...

... the unemployed teacher William de Rick ...

... committed an assassination attempt on the famous painting "The Night Watch" (painted 1642) by Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn..:

With a bread knife, de Rick makes ten continuous cuts in the image...:

When he is arrested by the police, he screams: "I am sent from God!"

De Rick is immediately taken to a closed institution.

The restoration of the picture takes several years and costs millions - but the damage cannot be completely eliminated - slight traces remain.

The following video gives an impression of the restoration...:

It is – after 1911 – the second time that “The Night Watch” is attacked with a knife.

In 1990, a third - and so far final - assassination attempt will follow, as a deranged man (having previously escaped from an asylum). But he can't do any major damage, because a museum employee has the presence of mind to wash away the acid with varnish...

An incredible painting , the restoration carried out is so skilled

Amazed it wasn't behind a clear barrier after the attempts

Today it is protected by bulletproof glass.

Something like that doesn't prevent any crazy climate "activists" from clinging to it as a protest - like in Berlin...
