Here's a little sbs on how I'm taking on this face. To be honest I'm not entirely happy with it so I will probably go back and do a little retouching. The first 2 photos show the face in its primed form with the surrounding areas blocked in ( shako, hair and collar). This will help to measure the tones of the base mix.

The following pics show the face with the base color.Eyes started too. You will notice that I opted for a rather dark mix.

I've found that I'm not entirely convinced with the fleshtones until I paint the hair, collar, and eyes. Interesting approach (blocking in the hair, shako, & collar), I'll have to try it next time I paint fleshtones.

The following photos show the 2nd H/L and the 1st shadow. At this stage I only put in 2 highlights and the first shadow to further adjust the tones if necessary. almost always I add another H/L after the 2nd shadow

Great SBS. You have inspired me to try a new sequence at painting highlights/shadows. Great idea to first block in the surroundings. I look forward as you continue the work on this figure.

Hi Stephen, thanks for showing the pics, it's good to follow progress in such close steps, especially for faces.
