Hello Guy`s,
I have started this project for one a half year, and now I painted from time to time a little bit on this.I am ready with this flat in 1 years I think.
It is a flat in 30mm engraved by Ludwig Frank

Again this one is becoming a masterpiece. I know you paint in oils, so i am curious to achive that deep red colour.
Can you explain it.

Hello Marc,
I have use Paynsegrey, Carmine, Cadmium red deep and Cadmium red light.
At first paint Paynsegrey over the whole area not to thick ( halbdeckend in german) let it dry (10 Min), then Carmine over the whole area so that you have close with this two colours the area. Now paint the first light with Cadmium red deep and the hightlights with Cadmium red light. That is all my friend.

Konrad that is incredible. To get so much detail and vibrancy in your colours in such a small scale is well beyond my capabilities. Simply superb.

If I may ask, but with your mix for that great deep red color, is your technique call for wet on wet? (I'm assuming all the colors you listed were oil paints.) Also, do you undercoat your figures with acrylics?

Hello Nancy,
I painted wet in wet but I repeat the same 2-4 times. After the first panting session let it dry for 2 days then start again with the same painting. Paint every time verry thin you must not get on the first painting session the finish result. I think the big mistake by painting with oil colors is the most painter want the result on the first painting session. If you read books of the old masters ( Rembrandt, Goya etc. ) they use some layers to get the result of the finished color.With that last session use a mix of Chromoxidgreen deep, Ultramarinblue deep and Carmine to strengthen the shadows.

Do without with painting on white and black, white makes every colour milky and black grey. It is better to use the complementray colors so you get a naturally look.
