    Hi Guys,

Of I go on another seldom trodden path! 120mm Royal Navy on sentry duty, loosely based on the photo, with a slightly different pose! Milliput over one of my old figures as a dolly, with a new head. Still much to do, thanks for looking,

    Steve(y)

I really like this! I’ve thought of during something similar, but you’ve beat me to it.
can I make a suggestion…. how about arming him with a Lanchester sub machine gun and wearing the modified 1937 pouches designed specifically for the RN? That would make him really distinctive.

Interesting project Steve. I know the photo well. I think he was on duty outside the Admiralty. The navy issue anklets were much taller than the army version and had three fastening straps instead of the army's two (you probably knew that:)). Still equipped with '07 webbing too - the navy were down the list on new kit issue.
    Watching with interest!

Thanks chaps! Ive researched the leggings and Ive gone for the 1WW type canvas ones with two straps (bottom one concealed) and lacing.... I think Ill stick with the 08 webbing, waterbottle, haversack, bayonet, but may add a steel helmet attached to the haversack and an early SMLE..... Ive also slimmed down the army boots to more closely resemble the RN issue...!!(y)

    Hi Phil,
Im really interested in your comment about RN anklets having three straps. I’ve seen lots of photo references to the type mentioned by Steve (and going on his figure) but I’ve never come across the three strap type you mention, do you have any photos as I’d really be interested in seeing them. I’ve seen four strap version and there is a lot of debate about them being worn by UK troops…. there is suggestion that they were worn by despatch riders.
    I’m really genuinely intrigued.

Any chance of this being commercially available? The RN always had the army's hand-me-downs, hence the '08 webbing and SMLE.

I have often thought of doing something similar.

Hi Mike - thanks for the pic. If there is a manufacturer out there who wanted to take it on, then it could become commercial. I always sculpt my figures and busts with an eye to being commercial, but a most of my subjects are considered too "niche", by many makers!!(y)

Cap, Mike, as per the photo in 120mm. I was going to add haversack and water bottle, but the loose straps hanging down would indicate they're not carried in the photo..
