I've just finished my 1C Roman Pratorian Guardsman.
For this figure, I also realised 1C roman room decorated with some greco-roman pottery and fresco and tried presenting the mosaic floor. For the shield, inspired by Hardy's. Welcom all sorts of critics!

Nice painting on this figure and scene. I have to admit though, the pose of the figure feels awkward to me. Love the mosaic floor.

Insaine!!! Its amazing in my humble opinion. I really get drawn in by the purple and blues... Then I catch the pottery with the gloss finish, simply stunning.

I too agree with others, the pose is a little strange, the painting and the base is excellent, one can't overlook the details on the vases, floor and walls! Very original, though not often seen with Romans.

The work that you did on the base, the pottery, the shield etc are awesome.
However this figure is running (at least the pose),so being in this little environment i think you took the wrong figure for this basework.
The soldier is trying to take his gladius out, so he is being in battle. This really awesome painted (decorated) shield was in use for parade.
Further i really like the painting of the purple color. But the purple was reserved for the senators and very high placed people.
Another reason for this was that the purple pigment was very expensive.

But again, it is and stay's a great painted figure with awesome basework.

Just my little honest opinion.

Thanks for all your nice compliments... Especially thaks for the comment on some points that I couldn't think about...
However I named this figure 'Cassius Chaerea' and wanted to realise the pretorian guardsman running out from his room for the assassination of the Emperor Caligula, so I chose the purple color for his robe because he was the chief of the pretorian... And the room, I got the idea from the ruins of Pompei...
