This is my version of Pegaso's Roman Legionnaire, Miles Legio II Augusta. This is my second 54mm figure and I'm pretty happy with the result. The painting is all in acrylic. The character is set in Britannia in the mid 1st century AD, where the second legion was serving at that time. The figure is dressed for cold weather so I created a snowy base.

I wanted to create some contrast between the red of his cape and the red of his tunic, so I added some browns to change the tone. The symbol of the second legion was the capricorn, so that is the design I chose for the shield. The shield designs, as well as the seams on the tunic and sleeves, were all painted free hand.

    Very nice,
The shading in the cape is very well done and as said previously is a great contrast with the red of the shield.
The flesh is well done as are the metallics.
For 54mm this looks extremely good.
    Ta for showing,
    Gells.

Thank you all, I appreciate the kind words. I had been a little intimidated by the 54mm scale so I stuck to larger figures and busts.

Very nicely done. I was told by an "expert" awhilke back that the Roman soldiers capes were darker red than their tunics. Ranking officers capes darker still with a sheen to them. The were made from Ligurian wool wich was greasy and consequently waterproof/resistant. Who knows?
IMHO...do not think the snow on the bottom of the shield adds to the already very good paint job.
