    Hi guys,

    Here's my latest project; Seil's 90mm Roman Gladiator.

So far I've primed and base coated the flesh areas in Vallejo acrylics, and added the first layer of mid shadows and mid highlights. Next step will be to paint the face, however it will be completely obscured once the face guard is attached to the helmet.:p

I intend to apply a series of dilute oil glaze washes over the flesh areas to give the skin a bit more depth.

In the left hand is a large shield, which I am painting separately, and will attach towards the end of painting.

As always, I welcome any comments, suggestions and criticisms.

    Thanks very much Costas.

I thin Vallejo acrylics with distilled water Gordy. I'll thin the oils with white spirits.

    Excellent start, Tony.
    Very beautiful flesh color.
My favorite manufacturer about SEIL, too.
I wanted them to release more many figures.
I think your work will be something wonderful surely.

Tony, Nice figure and good start!

I've had my eye on this figure for some time, it looks really good.

    Is is metal or resin?
And how are you going to tackle the helmet and greave?

    Cheers,
    Adrian

Hi Gordy, yes I use distilled water, particularly because the tap water here in Perth has a high iron content and this can effect acrylic colours.

Hi Steve, I know the feeling mate. I started getting keen on gladiators after my trip to Rome last year and visiting the Colloseum. This figure was actually given to me by Ian Harries from Empire Hobbies as a prize at last year's WASMEx.

Thanks Marcel, I hope to get some more work don this weekend.

Hi Mitsutaka, thank you for your kind comments. It's a pity Seil went out of business, they made some beautiful figures and their kits were always full of character and extra details such as name plates.

Hi Ben, not a chance buddy. Maybe next year's WASMEx but not this year.

Hi Adrian, its a metal figure and quite heavy but is now out of production. You might be able to pick it up on ebay. The helmet and greave will be painted in a bronze/ gold colour. The mirmillo helmet in particular was often polished to a high sheen to catch the light and temporarily blind their opponents in the arena.

Thanks Mark, always nice to have your support on my WIP's.

Gordy, WASMEx is the Western Australian Scale Model Expo. It's the only model show in Western Australia and has been going for 11 years now. It's rather small by US/ European standards, but has grown to become the third largest model show in Australia and attracts several thousand visitors over the two days. I was involved in getting WASMEx set up back in 1999, and these days I'm the Chief Judge and on the organising committee.

Hi Dave, yeah its a pity these figures are no longer commercially available but I believe most of the moulds for Seil's figures were bought when the company went under, so hopefully we'll see a few of them re-released sometime in the future.

Hi Ken, thanks for your comments and your support mate.

    My Friends Tony,
Very good start to a pretty charming miniature as some good skin color maybe a little more shading would show a bit more details.
But I expect the next step that the miniature painting.
