    Hello all,

Most of my modelling time I am working on multiple figures. I do a lot of little conversions. I want to use this thread to share the in progress construction work I do, and keep this thread updated.

Last evening I worked on a 1:35 CMK US figure wich I am converting to a Syrian infantryman in the seventies, based on Osprey artwork.
I scraped of the rifle and added a Verlinden German head. I replaced the boots and leggings with modern ones from Callsign.

Very nice work. I'm a fan of converting and tweaking stuff to make something a bit unique, so this is all right up my street.

    Thanks guys.
    Nothing fancy today, lazy Sunday..
I primed this Legend figure for a cobuild with Geert, one of my modelling buddies. He is a fantastic airplane builder and is gonna paint the aircraft part .
Also spent some time planning and composing a Stalingrad moedjahedin and the groundwork.
I added a photo of my modelling set up and current figure display in my workroom.

    Hello all,

I am focusing on the Afghan mujahideen figure now from construction to finish.
Had to rework the cloak with MS a little for a natural sit on the base. No big issues with this figure. Just a great sculpt and casting. Started to paint the face also.

Working on the paintwork, together with some extra work on the cloak to fit the base nicely and give it an extra detail. I was pretty positive on the sculpting of this figure but while painting I did experience some issues. The sculpting , and casting of the hands of the hands were pretty bad. Failed to see that first but painted up it was obvious. So I managed to loosen the arms again and did some carving and added some MS. When dried I do some extra carving for new detail. There was also an issue with the sculpting of the eyes while painting but I am pretty satisfied how they are painted now.

That brings me to the issue of the quality of recent 1:35 scale resin figures. Seeing Minisoldiers new release today or old figures from Warriors or Hornet, beautifully sculpted and cast, I realize there are pretty much poorly designed and cast figures on the market. I mostly buy figures to convert or they fit the themes I like to model I am getting disappointed a lot by some companies on quality. For instance I bought the new Japanese infantry figures from Paracel, they looked pretty good on the website and I really liked the poses. But they were way underscale and terribly casted. I managed to resell them but it really annoyed me.

    oké, back to the project

Finished the sculpting of the cap of the Syrian soldier.
Now let the MS dry for a couple of days and then on with refining and a little carving.
Then it wil be finished for priming. I ordered a digital printed SDV dragunov with wooden stock made by fellow PF member Venko to add as his weapon and stay close to the illustration. Venko’s weapons look really great.

The Mujahideen is finished, still not satisfied with the hands, but alas. Done is done.
I will post pictures of it in the completed projects after taking better quality pictures.

    Hello all,

Working on some shelf queens. I started this Belgian paracommando probably some 4 years ago.. Took some time this week to sculpting the trousers and do some cleanup.
Torso is from an old resin airborne figure, arms from Firestorm. Head is from Verlinden.
Sculpting is done with MS. After hardening I do a little carving to sharpen and refine the folds.

Loving the in progress notes here Robert.
Do like your eclectic mix of subjects too.
Impressive display of your figures in your cabinet too.
Appreciate your notes on casting & agree you have to be discerning. Comments on 3D parts is helpful too.
And reckon that little para’s head has to be from Sid Horton - pretty sure he did some work like Brit Paras for Verlinden back in the day.

    Thanks Mike, Merry and Razor,

The head is a great sculpt, thought is was from Roger Saunders. I gonna look who Sid Horton is. I am always interested in who makes the stuff we spend so much time with.

In my neverending struggle to make decent photos of my paintwork I came across of this background product from Greenstuffworld, so I ordered one, with some paints and putty, and it arrived today.

Took some testshots of some random figures today and I am very pleased with it so far. The photos attached are made without extra lightning with my smartphone. Gonna experiment with it some more but like to know your opinion on the quality of the pictures.

Photos & sharp background work well Robert.
Again each figure shows a unique mini story representing soldiers not offer seen in miniature.
    Keep ‘em coming mate!

PS Sid Horton was man behind Chota Sahib. An important sculptor, with his own brand in the 80’s & early 90’d
