An empty workbench.. all cleaned up and spent some time sorting all my weapons, heads, hands and lots of equipment and figure parts. Bought some nice little storage boxes to keep it more organized…

Took some time to relax and go through my books and reference material on the North Ireland troubles , Iran-Iraq war and Dutch UN missions for inspiration for new projects….delving into history is an essential part of the hobby to me

Hello all,

I read a lot on the North Ireland troubles nowadays. It inspired me to do this figure.
It has been a long, long time since I sculped a full figure…. Used a Hornet head and some spare parts. Shield is scratch, baton is still a prop and the figure is sculped with Duro. Still some small details to do.

Malc, when I am hooked on a project I spent a lot of free time between work and family on it. Sometimes an hour, sometimes even five minutes in the morning. Trying to plan ahead of what to do next on a figure. And no staring or musing at the workbench…works pretty good for me.

Hello all,

Finished painting today of the British soldier.
Took some quick pictures. It was a real learning figure… lots of things I gonna do different on a next figure. The sculpting of the clothing details can be much sharper and with less folds. But it was a long time ago I did a full figure like this. I enjoyed doing the shield and the visor. I really wanted to do those details and it turned out pretty ok. I will try to make some better pictures later and post them in the completed section.
Still a struggle to make good pictures that does justice to my figures and I am a firm believer you have to see models and figures up close and personal.




and on to the next.. a Israeli tanker during the Yom Kippur war 1973. I use the excellent Royal Model figure for this. I found the pose and head a bit boring but the figure is an great sculpt. I wanted to give the figure some more drama and a 70 ‘s period feel. I used a Hornet head and added some more hair and sideburns.

What also accelerated my output is the switch from enamels to acrylics with a wet pallet. 5 minutes here, ten minutes there and an hour, sometimes 2 hours in the evening makes pretty much bench time and a fine, but flexible balance with work and family life.

I will look into the competitions. First gonna try to make some decent pictures.

Some news from my workbench..
I finished some 90 procent of the painting on my Israeli tanker. Took some more work on the construction because of a pretty bad fit of the right arm with the original uzi. In reality it was pretty different as presented on the boxart and the uzi was particularly badly cast. But alas, it gave some chance to do some changes to my liking. I carved of the uzi and replaced it with a wooden stock Uzi from Italeri.
Didn’t start with the basework yet because I gonna get some Syrian tank items from one of my modelling buddies who is gonna bring it to our next meeting in July.




So I started with the base colors this French para figure from Bravo 6. I got this one converted and primed for almost 4 years waiting for some paint. I also gave this one a Hornet head with some hair from Duro.

As always, excellent work all along. I really enjoy your conversions and original pieces of usually not often represented conflicts. As you know, I'm particularly fond of the Indochina War and therefore it's good to see you tackle your next mini.
Out comes the rivet-counter (I'm German and can't help it): In my opinion, the camo isn't quite right, though. The former Jean Reno is wearing a tenue de saut mle 1947/52, which is absolutely correct for that time frame, but - it used different colour hues to the models 1947/53 and 1947/56.

The base colour was more of an off-olive green, the green "brushstrokes" were also more olive and the brown ones more subdued...

Thanks, no problem, your input is very appreciated and I think you are right.
I based my color palette on this plate but I just didn’t get it right on the colors and the strokes. It is much more lizard pattern. Maybe I got a dominant mental image of that pattern in my my mind instead of keeping check on the actual reference plate.



Well, win some, loose some. I gonna repaint it.
