Hi all, I hope this is the right forum for my first thread! A bit about me, I'm a serving soldier in the British Army and my project is a bit of Regimental history - to represent in miniature one figure from each of the regiments that now form my regiment (The Rifles), that served in the Peninsular War.

The Rifles were formed in 2007 as an amalgamation of four regiments of the British Army:
    The Devonshire and Dorset Regiment
The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment
    The Light Infantry
    The Royal Green Jackets

After a bit of research I worked out that I needed to represent 15 Regiments of Foot.
    D & D - 11th and 39th
    RGBW - 28th, 61st, 62nd and 66th
    LI - 32nd, 51st, 53rd, 68th and 85th
    RGJ - 43rd, 52nd, 60th and 95th

So far I've completed ten of them. All from Perry Miniatures and all painted using enamels. They're only small but I paint really slowly!

The first two, a Centre Company Officer of the 11th and a Light Company Sergeant of the 39th:

    Hello Windy
Welcome to PF . You are on right place where you can show your work and your figures are greatly painted.
Enjoy in hobby and I hope to see more of your work.
If I may to give you one advice:try acrylic paints. For me enamels are to thick for figures. On PF you will find many expirienced painters who will gladly help you. They helped me.
    Greetings from Serbia

    Hi Windy ,

Welcome to PF nice looking figures and a great project .

I have spent many an hour at the museum in Winchester

Have a go at Acrylics or oils as many use enamels as base colours for the oils

Lots of help here on PF

    Thanks for sharing

    Welcome to PF Alex.
That's a very nice collection you're putting together.
By the way, there's nothing wrong with enamels. Bill Horan used them to produce masterpieces.

Guys, thank you very much for the feedback. My phones been bleeping at me all day!

Dekiman and Nap. I've tried acrylics, as that seems to be what everyone uses, but I find they dry too quickly. Is there anything I can use to slow it down? I also like to mix my own shades so I reverted to enamels, which is what I always used as a kid. I agree though, they can be a bit thick sometimes.

Andrew. Oh to be in the same league as Bill Horan! The first of his work I ever saw was the 44th at Gandamack.

Bob. Still got five more to go with this project. Just made a start on a grenadier of the 28th. I need to source some more figures though - I've run out of Perrys!

    Cheers all,

    Windy

You guessed it! Miller. I've been nicknamed Windy since the day I joined!

Nap. Good advice. Cheers. I'll try that! As for the Perrys, I've used almost all their figures now so I need to find another producer or I'll be duplicating poses. Sash and Saber do 40mm so I might have a look at theirs. They're in the States though and quite pricey.

That's a great idea for a project. Try different paints and mixtures until you find a happy medium that you like and remember to have fun!!!

HA.......It all started for me as a young soldier not allowed out of camp in basic training and I thought sod it I'll paint a figure.............be careful ! ;)

I also like the fact that it's YOUR Regimental history you are commemorating as a theme.

You get 11/10 for that alone.

    Well done m'boy.

    Paul.
