In his artistic life he created at least 350 paintings, 300 etchings and 1000 drawings, each one today represents millions - and yet he died in bitter poverty!

On 26 July 1656 the painter Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn ...

... declared insolvent by the authorities of the city of Amsterdam!

At the last moment before this decision, he tried to save his house by putting it on his son Titus ...

Three things have contributed to Rembrandt's bankruptcy:

In old age he looked for new artistic ways - and especially painted landscapes ...

... which, in contrast to his well-known commissioned works such as "The Nightwatch" ...

On the other hand, after the death of his wife Saskia (June 14, 1642) ...

... he fell into a deep artistic hole and the number of his works went down sharply overall.

And thirdly, he fell on the nose in the business of trading foreign works of art.

    Now he loses everything!

To settle the pressing debts, his house in Breestraat ...

He loses the guardianship right for his beloved son.

Rembrandt has to move to the Rozengracht, where above all socially weaker classes live ...:

There he lives a secluded life among Mennonite and Jewish friends.

    Nevertheless, he continues to paint.

On October 4, 1669, he died in the Rozengracht, completely impoverished.

His last picture "Simeon in the temple" remains unfinished ...:
