Ladies and gentlemen of the Planet, with the holidays out of the way, finally found time to finish our proud and noble Polish Winged Hussar whose bravery and courage saved Europe and Christianity.
The figure still needs some touch ups and extreme shadows and highlights.
Thank you for your patience and for following the step by step.

    Hello Roc,

your paintjob looks very good to me !!!

But I wish you would spent a little bit more time at the base....this would help your figure come alive a little bit more.....a little bit more grasses....green and yellow colours as a soft contrast to the red and browns - and this excellent figure will stand up a little bit more - like the proud warrior as you painted him !!!

    Again: I like it !!!

    Best wishes,
    Markus

What a beautiful piece. Now I have to go back and follow the SBS.

Myself, I'm a minimalist when it comes to groundwork, especially when the piece itself is an outstanding sculpture and beautifully painted. I think there's often a tendency these days to overpower the figure with too much realistic groundwork. Not every piece has to be a realistic mini-vignette telling a tiny story of place and time. There are many pieces Ive seen that could stand alone with just a nicely finished base and no groundwork at all. This is one piece, in my opinion, that needs very little to frame it or explain it. Great work.

    And that's just my opinion,

    Hi Roc
One of your best yet! Love the tone of the horse
I agree with Markus perhaps a bit more foliage on the base but it doesnt take anything away from a very good and well painted figure
Did you have any major problems with him?
    Cheers

    Roc,

Extremely well done paintjob. What a great figure you painted there.
    Excellent.

About the base: I like it. The figure needs no more. I think we are going to far with the bases. It is figurepainting we doing, not basemaking.
Oke, it is a part of the figure's environment, but how far we go ??
It is the figure that has to be judged not the base. Unfortunaly i've seen extremely well painted figures on a awefull base who has nothing. At the otherhand i've seen bad painted figures on an overwhelming base who get all the credits.
That is simply wrong. We are FIGURE PAINTERS.
And an extremely well done base is a joy for the eye. Never more, never less.
It is the figure that counts,.

Markus, thanks for your kind words ,I appreciate it.
About the groundwork you are right, as a rule I usually elaborate a bit more on my groundwork, just did not have the time. maybe next time.

Cheers and have a great 2007.

John, many thanks, glad you like the way it turned out.
About the groundwork, I was a bit stingy, I usually elaborate a bit more, just not enough time, next time I will make time.
I didn't have many problems doing this figure, but there were some missing parts that I had to make my self.

Cheers and have a super 2007.
