As i'm now in the final stages of the chillianwallah project I thought I would get my next piece assembled ready for priming, for this subject I've chosen the new release by Graham Scollick at CGS Military Figures which is a bust of a Polish Lancer - Waterloo 1815.
The Polish Lancers (Elba) squadron served as part of the Imperial Guard Light Cavalry Division at both Quatre Bras and Waterloo, however they were not heavily involved at Quatre Bras and were at full strength on the 18th at Mont St Jean, they took up their position at waterloo in the 3rd line behind the right centre, they became heavily involved in the series of great cavalry attacks during the afternoon.
The bust itself is beautifully sculpted by Carl Reid and casted beautifully by Graham, there are only minimal flash lines and fit of parts is excellent.
The lance itself makes this bust a bit of a nightmare for basing and modelers all over will have their own ideas how to deal with it,i have chosen a slightly larger than normal size base with the bust positioned more to the rear with the lance angled down as steep as I could get it.
There are lots of small pieces to assemble and attach and care must be taken when removing the cast blocks.
Graham has included a small sheet of lead foil, plus some lead wire and also a small section of brass wire which will be used for the chinstrap hook on the Czapska and some brass rod for the lance itself.
Most historians and books will have the polish lancers wearing campaign dress, this would normally involve the Czapska being covered by a foul weather cover and no plume being worn, but this piece has ben so beautifully produced the Czapska is a work of art on its own so i'm going to complete this with the plume attached as well.
I have deliberately left the right arm free as I plan to paint it separately.
The lance pole in the kit is 2 pieces of brass rod,i have used both and joined them within the hand, however a one piece one could also be used, once assembled the pole measures 29cm.

The Kit number is CR13 - Polish Lancer

A Tsapka with cover is in my opinion no Tsapka.
It has to been showed because without it is no polisch Lancer.
The Tsapka is the trademark of the polisch Lancer.
It always worth the effort to paint it.....and I'm very sure that you can get the best out of this figure.
    Looking forward to it Brian.
